Can You Eat These Carrots?

Face it, you just couldn't eat the cutest carrot... even if it does look like an alien

She's been dubbed The Baby Whisperer for helping hordes of women realise their dreams of starting a family against medical odds.

Now it seems acupuncturist Yvonne Darnell, 46, has used her special skills to give life to one of her own carrots - which bears an uncanny resemblance to an angel-faced alien.

The 'Sussex Stork' dug up the unusual legume from her Burgess Hill garden.

Alien roots: Acupuncturist Yvonne Darnell, dubbed The Baby Whisperer for the number of women she has helped to conceive, has grown a carrot with a distinctly intergalactic appearance

With green shoots for its hair and two dangling tips for its legs, it's easy to see how she has become attached to the arm-less root vegetable.

Yvonne has helped 80 women, who had previously been told they had no hope in having children, conceive.

Her first success story was a woman who had endured eight failed rounds of IVF treatment.

Other crunchy carrots to have hit the headlines in recent years include a five-fingered specimen grown by Peter Jackson, 66, in Shropshire, and a Buzz Lightyear lookalike found by Clive Williams in Henley-on-Thames, Oxon.

In 2010 a U.S.S. Starship Enterprise-shaped potato was spotted at the National Gardening Show in Shepton Mallet,Somerset.

Amateur gardener Peter Glazebrook pulled up the giant spud -weighing a whopping 8lb 4oz.

Baby-shaped pears, a parsnip that looked like a witch and a potato teddy bear have all also been discovered.

Colonel Gaddifi has been captured - in Plasticine - by Leicester-born sculptor Karen Caldicott, who now lives in New York. Her Gaddifi bust cheekily features cuts and bruises - perhaps a glimpse at the Libyan leader's imminent future. Karen has also made eight inch-high sculptures of Michael Jackson, Mick Jagger, Hillary Clinton...

...and Apple boss Steve Jobs. Karen explains: "This Plasticine is the kind that is used in stop-motion/Claymation animation. The fact that it never really hardens makes it the perfect material to continually make adjustments, which art directors often ask me to do."

"Mostly these are commissions from magazines and newspapers. If I decide to make a head otherwise it's because I can really have fun with a certain subject, she says". Pictured: hersculpture of Michael Jackson

As well as sculpting well-known faces, Karen accepts commissions with prices starting at $1000. She displays her works in galleries and also has plans to animate her heads for a short film. Pictured: Mick Jagger

"I do not have a favourite sculpture as I become very fond of them all," she says. "I'm surrounded by them at home, they keep me company."

She first sketches her subject before painstakingly building up the shoulders and head by adding small bits of Plasticine. Once she is happy with the features the bust is then painted in acrylic.

Amazing Capsule Hotels in Japan

Amazing Capsule Hotels in Japan

Capsule hotels are a unique form of accommodations developed for working Japanese men who are too busy to go home. The hotels comprise of individual blocks of small, coffin sized living quarters with just enough room to sleep. Some capsules include a TV, a wireless internet connection, mirrors and alarm clocks. The capsules are stacked side by side in rows normally with one unit on top of the other, with steps providing access to the second level rooms. The capsules are sealed with a door or a curtain and bathroom facilities are normally shared. A locker key is usually provided to each guest to keep baggage in a locker outside the capsules.

The capsules cost 2500 to 4000 Yen per night (about $30 $50). Since this is cheaper than proper hotel rooms, they are often used by businessmen who worked too late to catch the train or stayed out drinking all night. Capsule hotels are also popular among budget travelers. With continued recession in Japan, as of early 2010.
